AcaResearch Pathway

AcaResearch Pathway bridges the gap between academia and aspiring high school researchers by providing mentorship and research guidance. Our program supports students' innovative ideas with the expertise of university professors and field experts. Under their guidance, students will conduct scientific research and write research papers for publication in reputable journals or as conference papers. If you are a high school student interested in ethical issues across various fields of Science, Technology, Medicine, and Education, we invite you to submit your research proposal using the link below. You will hear from our selection team within two weeks. If your submission passes the initial selection, you will be invited to an interview. Candidates who successfully pass the interviews will be paired with an expert in their topic and start a 16-week pathway project.

A Sample 16-Week Pathway Plan
"Machine Learning Cloud Physics to Better Predict Rainfall"

Weeks 1-4

Read machine learning and cloud physics papers as recommended by the mentor. The student will familiarize themselves with various machine learning architectures, strengthening their foundational knowledge about the application of the building blocks of the machine learning toolkit. By the end of these four weeks, the student and the professor will determine the best model to replicate or build upon.

Weeks 5-6

The student will plan out the machine learning algorithm’s architecture and the data pipeline, under the supervision of the professor. This will include how data will be gathered and input features carefully selected and processed.

Weeks 7-8

The student will acquire the data for the model and process the data as required. A surplus of data would be preferred since machine learning algorithms require massive amounts of data to produce state-of-the-art results.

Weeks 9-11

The student will train and tune the hyperparameters of the model and add all of its code and features to a GitHub repository. The professor will guide the model tuning, help evaluate the model performance, and analyze the output.

Weeks 12-16

The student will draft a paper formulating a thesis and detailing the findings. The mentor will help find a conference or journal to publish the paper.
